This series, Ritual || Reasoning + Codes is based on Live Dreaming sessions with my family. I collected the oral wisdom of past generations and then created figurative allegorical paintings. The geometric symbols in each work are quilt patterns that were used in the underground railroad to give messages to enslaved Africans as they made their way to freedom. I am interested in connecting  these codes with family sayings/ superstitions to investigate how my ancestors survived slavery, Jim Crow, war on drugs and how this knowledge can help us all navigate present day society.
